Model softball beats Coosa 12-4

The Model softball team earned its first win in two years when it defeated Coosa 12-4 in five innings of a Region 7-AA game Wednesday in Shannon.

The Lady Blue Devils scored six runs in the fifth inning to win the game via mercy rule after leading by eight runs.

Model (1-1, 1-1 7-AA) only recorded three hits as Jordan Holtzendor­f and Kayleigh Carney each had three walks.

Hanna Reynolds had a hit, a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored, and Madison Leonard had one hit and three runs scored.

Coosa (0-2, 0-2) committed four errors, but Lainey Simms went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Savana Thomas hit a two run homer in the third.

Model play again next Tuesday at Rockmart while the Lady Eagles host Dade County.

Rockmart 2, Armuchee 0

The Rockmart softball team rode a dominant pitching performanc­e from Emily Loveless to beat Armuchee 2-0 in a Region 7-AA matchup at Rockmart.

Loveless threw a completega­me shutout, allowing four hits and recording seven strikeouts in seven innings. Cambree Stanley led Rockmart with three hits, while Emma Evans contribute­d two more.

Armuchee (2-1, 1-1 7-AA) got two hits from Karson Fallin and a double from Lily Watson, but little else worked at the plate. Erin Carney allowed seven hits and one earned run in six innings, striking out three.

Rockmart (3-0, 2-0) travels to play Dade County today, while the Lady Indians host Pepperell.
