Darlington edges out Gordon Central for 2nd win

A day after getting its first win of the season, Darlington’s softball team doubled their number of wins while starting the Lady Cat Invitation­al tournament in Dalton.

Sophomore Olivia Adams had three RBIs, including the game-winning hit Friday evening to give the Lady Tigers a 6-5 victory over Gordon Central.

Darlington (2-2) was down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth when it put together a four-run rally. Gordon Central scored a run in the next two at-bats before the Lady Tigers pushed across two in the bottom of the sixth.

Kathryne Ledbetter had two RBIs, while Caroline Dingler had two hits in the win. Josie McKibben and Lily Fowler pitched for Darlington.

The Lady Tigers will continue to play in the Lady Cat Invitation­al today with their first game at 10 a.m. against Shaw.

In other action:

Rockmart 7, Marist 2

Playing in the LFO tournament, Rockmart’s Lady Jackets stayed undefeated after getting back-to-back three-run innings against Marist late Friday evening.

Emily Loveless led Rockmart with two RBIs, while Cambree Stanley and Emma Evans each drew a pair of walks.

Rockmart 6, Coahulla Creek 3

In its first game of the day, Rockmart managed to take a late lead with a three-run fifth inning and hold on to beat Coahulla Creek, 6-3.

The Lady Jackets (6-0) took a 2-1 lead in the fourth before Coahulla Creek scored two in the top of the fifth and retook the lead.

Loveless and Emily Maulding each had two hits, while Logan Patterson had two RBIs.

Carlee Graham got the win, pitching all six innings.

Rockmart will be back in action at the tournament today with game against Ringgold this morning at 9 a.m.
