Armuchee volleyball sweeps doubleheader
The Lady Indians beat Cedartown and Paulding in a tri-match.
The Armuchee volleyball team beat two teams in higher classifications on Thursday at home, with the Lady Indians beating Cedartown 25-16, 25-13 and taking down Paulding County 25-10, 25-14.
The victories push Armuchee back above .500 and give the team four wins so far against teams in classifications higher than AA. Armuchee coach Clint Decker said he believed his team played their best volleyball of the season Thursday.
“Everyone played as one and seems to be understanding our message we have to play as one and do the little things,” Decker said.
The Lady Indians (7-5) play again on Monday when they play Chattooga and Calhoun in Summerville.
SOFTBALL Armuchee 12, Gordon Central 7
The Armuchee softball team needed plenty of hits, but emerged with a 12-7 victory against Gordon Central in a Region 7-AA game in Calhoun on Thursday afternoon.
Karson Fallin recorded two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, while Katie Shinholster had three hits plus a run scored and an RBI. Kassidy Kinsey had two runs scored and two RBIs, while Savannah Poole had two runs and three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the first. On the mound, Lily Watson and Erin Carney combined to allow only two earned runs and eight total hits.
The Lady Indians (4-2, 3-2 7-AA) travel to Woodland today for the Buccaneer Bash to play Woodland and Sprayberry beginning at 5 p.m.
Pepperell 17, Coosa 1, 3 innings
The Pepperell Lady Dragons made quick and easy work of Coosa in a 17-1 blowout in Lindaleon Thursday afternoon. The game was called after three innings via mercy rule. Baylee Wright led the Dragons with a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Maycy Owens led the team with three RBIs.
Dahlia Sanford, Anna Cowan and Sydnie Edwards each had two walks, and Sanford added two RBIs. Wright did her part on the mound as well, allowing only two hits in three innings of work.
Pepperell (4-1, 3-1) plays Rome today at the Lady Tiger Invitational in Temple, while Coosa (04, 0-4) travels to play Armuchee next Tuesday.
Rockmart 13, Chattooga 1, 4 innings
Rockmart stayed undefeated with a 13-1 beat down on Chattooga in a Region 7-AA event Thursday afternoon in Rockmart. The game was called after four innings via mercy rule.
Kelsey Elrod was the star for the Lady Jackets with three hits and four RBIs, while Emily Loveless and Emma Evans each had two RBIs. Loveless started for Rockmart as well, allowing three hits in four innings. The Lady Jackets (10-0, 5-0) play again on Monday when they travel to play Bremen.
