Man gets several ribs broken in assault

A Rome man reportedly had several ribs broken when he was hit from behind and knocked to the ground on South Broad Street on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Rome police reports:

The 50-year-old man was walking down South Broad Street near Pennington Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when someone came up behind him and either kicked him or hit him with something in the back. He did not see who did this to him.

He was taken to Floyd Medical Center by a friend. He also had some small cuts on his back.

Sex offender fails to register after moving

A registered sex offender was in jail without bond Thursday night after reportedly failing to notify authoritie­s that he had moved.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Brett Wade Pippin, 30, of Sanford, North Carolina, was booked into the jail on Thursday, charged with felony failure to register as a sex offender/ failure to comply with requiremen­ts/provided false informatio­n.

On June 5, he moved from his address at 290 Harmony Road in Silver Creek without informing Floyd County sex offender registrati­on officers, according to a warrant for his arrest. Under state law, he has to register the address change within 72 hours of the move, the warrant continues.

Pippin also had warrants for undisclose­d charges out of Cherokee County, Alabama.

Report: Lindale man arrested with heroin

A Lindale man was jailed on a heroin possession charge and elder exploitati­on charges after a traffic stop on Wednesday night.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Roger Carter Weems, 31, of 2361 Old Cedartown Road, was stopped on Maple Road on Wednesday night just after 11 p.m. for problems with his rear lights.

After stopping the vehicle, officers discovered a bag containing suspected heroin, two needles and a spoon with suspected heroin.

Weems was charged with two felony counts for possession of a Schedule I drug and misdemeano­rs for possession of drug related objects and several traffic offenses.

Officers later determined that Weems had a warrant for felony exploitati­on of an elder for forging and passing a check.

Weems remained in jail Thursday night without bond.

Floyd charged with synthetic marijuana

A Rome man who could not maintain control of his vehicle was arrested in North Rome and charged with felony possession of synthetic marijuana, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Adam Bartley Carr, 37, of 5 Juniper Drive, was stopped on Wednesday night around 7:45 p.m. at the intersecti­on of Calhoun Road and Burton Road. Police said Carr was weaving and upon a consent search of the vehicle, officers found a bag containing synthetic marijuana. A cigarette with synthetic marijuana wrapped up inside the paper was also found in the floorboard of the driver’s side of the seat.

In addition to the felony drug charge, Carr is charged with misdemeano­r possession of drug-related objects and failing to maintain his lane.

Carr was released from jail Thursday on $3,500 bond.
