Byington announces bid for Rome BOE re-election

-

Driven by a desire to equip students to live meaningful and impactful lives, Will Byington announced his candidacy for Rome City school board on Thursday.

“I believe the future vitality of our community will be largely determined by how successful we are in pre- paring our students to be skilled, competent and responsible adults, and it’s incumbent upon us to provide them with the tools they’ll need to achieve that goal,” Byington said.

Byington has been a member of the city’s school board since September 2016, when he was chosen by the board to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Judy Sims in July of that year.

“Judy was a gifted educator and an incredible advocate for all students in Rome and it has been an honor to work with my fellow board members to continue her efforts,” Byington said.

Byington is a Rome native, graduating from Rome High in 1998. His wife, Heather Byington, teaches at East Central Elementary School and is in her 15th year in the city school system. The Byingtons have two sons, both students at East Central.

Byington is director of property management for Floyd Medical Center, where he oversees construction and remodeling projects, new acquisitions, maintenance, service contracts and utility management for all Floyd properties outside of the primary hospital campus.
