George Leslie Curry Jr.,

91, of Rome, died Aug. 24, 2017. Good Shepherd Funeral Home has charge of the arrangemen­ts.

Myrette Autry Bennett Hough,

95, of Cornelia, died Aug. 24, 2017. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, has charge of arrangemen­ts.

Margaret Jane Tucker Swanson,

94, of Rome, died Aug. 24, 2017. Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the arrangemen­ts. the U.S.S. Oklahoma City.

He married Ruby Lee Mathis in 1949, and they celebrated their 68th anniversar­y on August 7. He was a charter member of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church, was a teacher, held many positions of leadership in the church, and served in numerous volunteer services of the church. He was a secretary of the first Deacon Board in the church, served many church families as an Elected Deacon for several terms, and was honored by being elected a Life Deacon of the church.

He was employed at Knight’s Department Store, Little Star, Brittain Bros., and Pepperell Manufactur­ing in Lindale; Sears, H&R Block, Life of Georgia Insurance Company, Lockheed Aircraft, and went to work at General Electric in 1953 during the installati­on of equipment and start-up of the transforme­r plant in Rome. At G.E., he worked in production control, purchasing, accounting, materials, and customer service, and retired in 1985, after 35 years of service.

Mr. Curry was preceded in death by his father and mother, George L. Curry Sr. (1956) and Carlie Mae Wallace Curry (1986); his sister, Mary Hellan Curry (1920); his brother, Grover W. Curry (2001); his wife, Barbara Allen Curry (2011); aunt and uncle, Ed F. Allen (2006) and Alma W. Allen (2010); and a niece, Janie Mathis Welchel (2009).

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Lee Mathis Curry; special nephew and niece, Billy L. and Fonda L. Mathis; special caregiver, Gina Thomas; and nieces and nephews: Elizabeth C. Mull, Beverly C. & Kenneth Johnson, Linda M. Roberson, Nancy M. & Freeman Davenport, Gail Mathis, and Roger & Jean Mathis.

The remains will lie in state at Parnick Jennings Sr’s. Good Shepherd Funeral Home until the funeral date. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, 2017, prior to the funeral beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m., with the Reverend Bob Skelton and Dr. Jimmy Gentry officiatin­g. A private entombment will be held later.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearer­s and are asked to meet at Garden Lakes Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m.: Jason Wright, James Davenport, Ken Johnson, Wayne Roberson, Joey Mathis, and Garland Wade. TODAY
