Rome High volleyball sweeps doublehead­er

The Rome volleyball team stayed hot on Thursday with a sweep in a three-team meet, beating Chattooga 25-22, 25-19 and taking down Armuchee 25-23, 25-17. In the final game, Chattooga beat Armuchee 25-22, 25-19.

The Lady Wolves were led by Emma Sheffield and Olivia Vardy, who posted 15 and nine kills respective­ly. Katie Beth Davis led the team with 25 kills, Kallan Carper had 19 assists and Carol Saunders recorded three blocks.

Meanwhile, Armuchee’s Brandy Ann Wacker finished with 11 kills, while Brette Bauta recorded six kills. Victoria Reese and Carson Powell each had seven assists.

The Lady Wolves (156) begin Area 7-5A play next, as they travel to Hiram on Tuesday to play Hiram and Carrollton. Meanwhile, Armuchee (89) begins Area 3-AA play next week when it goes to Gordon Central to play the Lady Warriors and Rockmart on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL: Darlington 7, Mt. Zion 5

The Darlington softball team escaped with a 7-5 win against Mt. Zion in a Region 6-A battle at Darlington on Thursday afternoon.

Alex Gardner and Olivia Adams led the Lady Tigers with two RBIs each. Meanwhile, Kathryne Ledbetter allowed one run in five innings before Josi McKibben came in to finish the job for Darlington.

The Lady Tigers (5-6, 1-2 6-A) play again on Thursday when they host Gordon Lee.
