- From staff reports

The Coosa Eagles sent a message to the rest of Floyd County as they upset North Murray 42-26 at home Friday night.

Kenon Dixon led the way for the Eagles (2-0) with 178 total yards and a touchdown as a running back, receiver and on defense.

Gavin Hughes recorded 37 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and Logan Pledger threw for 171 yards and two passing touchdowns

Dixon and Hughes each returned fumbles back for touchdowns in the first half, putting Coosa up 28-13 at halftime. But North Murray (1-1) threw two touchdowns to close the lead to 28-26 with less than 10 minutes left.

But the Eagles sealed the win with a Hughes 8-yard touchdown run and a touchdown pass from Pledger to Dixon in the final four minutes.

Coosa plays again next Friday night when it travels to play Mt. Zion.

In other action Friday:

Rome 56, Drew 0

The Rome High football team jumped out to an early lead Friday against Drew and never slowed down on their way to a 56-0 win at Barron Stadium.

By halftime the Wolves had already racked up 430 yards of offense and a 42-0 score.

The win improves the Wolves to 2-0. They will travel to face Kell next Friday.

Adairsville 49, Model 14

Model trailed by only two scores at halftime Friday against Adairsville, but the Tigers tacked on three more scores in the third quarter to secure the win.

Model quarterback Jackson Couch was 8 for 17 with 124 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Kwalic Dublin led the Devils on the ground with 43 yards on 14 carries.

For Adairsville, Christian Steele rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown, and Mason Boswell rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns.

Model (0-2) will travel to Northwest Whitfield next Friday.

Sonoraville 14, Cass 13

The Sonoraville Phoenix were looking for Friday night to be a grand opening as they played in their home confines for the first time in 2017 while also debuting their brand new video scoreboard.

And a gutsy, comeback win allowed them to do just that.

After Cass raced out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, the Phoenix buckled down and rallied for a 14-13 win at The Furnace thanks to some big plays from their defense and special teams.

Sonoraville (1-1) came out in the third quarter trailing 13-0, and while their offense sputtered, the defense picked up the slack to force multiple three-and-outs. Needing a momentumchanging play, the Phoenix blocked a punt midway through the third and recovered the ball to set up shop near the Cass 25.

Sonoraville is back on the road next Friday for another stiff non-region when they travel to play Dalton at Harmon Field.

Cedartown 63, Gilmer 0

Homecoming was a statement game for the Cedartown Bulldgos, ending the night early with a 63-0 finish over the Gilmer Bobcats.

The Bulldogs finished with 346 total yards and only a few mistakes before a running clock shortened the game in the second half where the Bulldogs were able to put two more touchdowns on the board before putting away the Bobcats.

“It seemed like everything we were doing, we were hitting on all cylinders,” said head coach Doyle Kelley.

Kelley’s first season has started off big with a 3-0 start for the Bulldogs, but he gives credit to the talent on the field for doing the heavy lifting.

Senior quarterback Trevon Wofford went 2-4 for 54 yards with a touchdown pass to Tony Mathis Jr., and ran in for a score of his own in a team effort where plenty of others got to touch the ball and get into the end zone.

Mathis finished with a 120-yard night including a 26-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, a 50-yard score two possessions later and one of two second-half touchdowns from 1 yard out. Big plays also came from Chadriq Neal, who scored on the second play of the game with a 55-yard run, and later on a 23-yard run.

Cedartown will travel to face Pepperell next Friday.

Trion 35, Dade County 14

Trion’s football team improved to 2-0 on Friday night with a 35-14 road win against Dade County.

Logan Blevins led the way for the Bulldogs. He carried the ball 24 times for 135 yards and one touchdown. Cole Phillips had four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown, and Jarrett Hill was 9 for 12 for 94 yards and two touchdowns.

Trion led Dade County 21-7 at halftime, and rolled up 316 yards to Dade County’s 314.

Trion will host Bremen next Friday.

New Creation Christian 36, Unity Christian 30

Hoping to get some revenge for last year’s 48-0 loss to New Creation Christian, the Unity Christian football team nearly came away with a win but gave up a late touchdown on its way to a 36-30 loss.

UCS quarterback Terry Curry and Jansen Slaughter teamed up several times in the game to keep the Lions close to New Creation Christian.

After the Lions tied the score 2222 in the third quarter, UCS took the lead with just under eight minutes to play when Curry hit Slaughter on a 13-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion brought the score to a 30-28 lead for Unity.

Curry finished with 146 rushing yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. He also went 12 for 24 for 148 passing yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Slaughter had eight catches for 127 yards and three touchdowns, and had 9½ tackles on defense.

Eli Whiteside had five tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

Unity (2-1) will face Shiloh Hills on the road next Friday.
