Landry adds venture to space downtown
Living & Giving owner Lisa Landry has added a new Pop Up Shop and event space across the hall from her Living & Giving shop downtown.
Pop Up shops have become a growing trend in the retail industry, growing out of a concept that was first developed in England. “This type of temporary retail space typically focuses on a theme and only stays open for a few days providing clients an opportunity to see much more of a certain theme or product line than would normally be available in the typical store setting,” said Tracy Hellriegel.
Living and Giving was created by Landry primarily offering plants and gifts but has grown over the years into what some call a lifestyle shop with an assortment of food, plants, books, clothing, pictures and other things that would make a home feel more comfortable.
A “Coming Soon” sign will be posted in the window of the shop to announce when a Pop Up event is slated. Romans can also get information online at www. popuppopinrome.com.
In the absence of a Pop Up event, the space will be available for rental for small events. There is a bar area and counter top suitable for food service and there is a kitchen available for use during the events.
Anheuser-Busch plant honored
The Anheuser-Busch brewery in Cartersville was recognized last week for four years of work without a lost time injury.
Employees were joined by local officials for town-hall type sessions across each shift to recognize not only the four years of no lost time accidents, but a full year without an OSHA recordable incident.
Cartersville Mayor Matt Santini and Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor honored the employees and Manager Kevin Fahrenkrog said the company has put “an unrelenting focus on safety and quality.”
“Anheuser-Busch’s employees have always demonstrated their commitment to safety and quality, just as Anheuser-Busch has always demonstrated its commitment to this community – from creating jobs and contributing to the economy, to being involved in local causes and investing in sustainable practices,” said Mayor Santini.
“I know it has been at the heart of everything Anheuser-Busch and its employees do here in Cartersville, and I want thank them for keeping each other safe in the workplace,” Taylor said.
Neelley attorney sets book signing in Rome
Fort Payne, Alabama attorney Bob French, the counsel for convicted child murderer Judith Ann Neelley, has penned a new about the infamous case and will be in Rome Saturday October 14 from 1-4 p.m. for a book signing at Dogwood Books, 240 Broad Street.
Neelley was convicted of the murder of Lisa Ann Millican and originally sentenced to death in 1983 however the death sentence was commuted by former Alabama Governor Fob James in December of 1999.
Millican was abducted by Neelley and husband Alvin Neelley Jr. from the old Riverbend Mall, assaulted, killed and her body dumped into the Little River Canyon.
Alvin Neelley Jr. was serving a life sentence in Georgia until his death in prison in 2005.
French’s new book “Beaten, Battered and Damned — The Drano Murder Trial” is expected to be available this week at Dogwood Books.
