Labor Day Barbecue will be held Monday at the Rome Civic Center, 400 Civic Center Drive, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (or sold out). Guests are welcome to dine in or carry out. Options include barbecue plates, sandwiches or bulk sales. Plates will cost $9 for a choice of beef, pork, ribs or a quarter of a chicken, each served with Brunswick stew, baked beans, chips and bread. One pound of beef or pork to go will cost $9; $5 for a sandwich combo; $7 for half a chicken or a quart of baked beans; $9 for a quart of Brunswick stew; and $18 for a half-rack of spare ribs. The Rome African Violet Study

The New Horizons Band will begin rehearsals at Franklin Hall, Shorter University, 315 Shorter Ave., on Thursday. The group is comprised of members over 50 who either played a band instrument in school and haven’t played in many years or would like to learn to play an instrument and play in a group setting. NAMI Rome is offering two free courses on mental health this fall. Family-to-Family, a 12-week course for adults who have a friend or loved one with a mental illness, will start Sunday. Peer-to-Peer, a 10-week course for adults with a mental illness, will begin Sept. 17. Both will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. on Sundays. Participants must register before attending. Control and local veterinarians will conduct a rabies vaccination
clinic for cats and dogs Sept. 16 from 1-4 pm in the parking lot of the Floyd County Health Department, 16 E. 12th St. Animals must be healthy, at least twelve weeks of age and on a leash or in a pet carrier. Cost for the rabies vaccination is $10.

County will offer a Pop-Up Dog Park on Sept. 24 at Riverside Park, 1 Redwood St., from 1-4 p.m. Small dogs play on the hour and big dogs play on the half hour. To enter, owners must show proof of current rabies vaccination. Owners are responsible for the action of their dogs and must clean up after their pets. All dogs must be on a leash until they enter the park and use of the park is at your own risk. The Moon Gallery at Berry
