Region 7-AA teams adjust their plans in the wake of cancellations.

Local teams will try to get back on schedule today as they work to make up the contests postponed by the approach and effects of Tropical Storm Irma.

All of the school systems in Rome, Floyd County and Polk County canceled classes Monday and Tuesday to keep students and faculty safe, which meant all contests scheduled for those days had to be canceled as well.

Softball teams will try to get postponed region games in today, if field conditions allow. Darlington will host Christian Heritage at 5 p.m., while Coosa will visit Rockmart at 5:30 p.m.

Armuchee is set to make up its game against Model today at 5:30 p.m. in Shannon, but Lady Indians coach Shane Arp admits they’ve talked about other dates if they have to postpone it again.

“We know it may be a long shot, but being a region game we’ve got to get it in,” Arp said, adding that the biggest issue is flooded fields. “We got three- or four-plus inches of rain in the last 48 hours, and we really didn’t get a good break from it today like we were hoping.”

Attempts to find out the rescheduled date for Pepperell’s Region 7-AA game at Chattooga were unsuccessful on Tuesday.

Volleyball teams will get back on the court today as Model hosts Gordon Central and Coosa at 5 p.m. Armuchee’s match at Pepperell from Tuesday has been rescheduled for Monday.

The annual City-County Championships cross country meet at Grizzard Park has been postponed. A make-up date has not been set.
