Claude Thomas White Sr.

Mr. Claude Thomas “Tommy” White Sr., age 72, of Rome, passed away Monday morning, September 11, 2017, in a local health care facility.

Mr. White was born in Floyd County, Ga. on November 27, 1944, son of the late James Claude White and the late Gladys Johnson White. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Martha Faye Martin, Dorothy Howell, Jimmie Nell Baker, and Patricia Roberson. Tommy was a 1962 graduate of East Rome High School and served briefly in the United States Navy. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he was employed for a while with Interstate Insurance and with Sears Roebuck in sales. He began his career in real estate owning and operating Galaxy of Homes Real Estate Co. and Realty World here in Rome. Later he merged with Garden Lakes Realty Co. and continued his career there and was a Real Estate Broker upon his retirement. He was Past-President of the Rome Board of Realtors, was named Realtor of the Year on several occasions, and was a member of the Rome Board of Realtors Hall of Fame. He was an avid bowler and golfer and was an active member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Belinda Sue White, to whom he was married on April 13, 1985; a daughter, Tracie Hall, and her husband, Eric, Rome; two sons, Tom White Jr., and his wife, Amanda, Rome, and Scott Snow, and his wife, Kristi, Lindale; his grandchild­ren, Xander White, Jordan White, Stephen Hanson, Megan Muller-Habig, Sierra Snow, Shelby Snow, Reagan Robinson, and Kenzie Hall; four sisters, Evelyn Dodd, and her husband, Russell, Lafayette; Mary Grace Meeks, and her husband, James, Rome; Jane Doss, Chatsworth; and Sue Bradley, Chattanoog­a, Tenn.; nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with his Pastor, the Rev. Mac McCurry, and his son-in-law, the Rev. Eric Hall, officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective homes.

Active and honorary pallbearer­s are requested to assemble at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and are as follows: Active: Doug Tumlin, Mark Brewster, Greg Hall, Von Lambert, Berman Bennett, and Larry Maxey. Honorary: Jack Morgan, Charlie Alford, and Ken Owens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church, 735 Old Summervill­e Road, Rome, Ga. 30165.
