Local groups are helping smallest hurricane victims

- From Rome-Floyd ARF

The Animal Rescue Foundation of Rome Floyd, along with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and PAWS, has been hard at work for several weeks collecting donations for Rome Ga-Cares. The donations are supplies for displaced animals affected by the hurricanes. These donations will leave Rome today.

Numerous Rome businesses and individuals helped by collecting pet food. Some that contributed are GMC Grocery, Sue’s Barber Shop, West End Florist, Lavender Mountain Hardware & Garden, Profile Extrusion, Amanda Corbin Insurance, Vitality Center, Rome Cleaners and others. Monetary donations were also received.

In addition, Local Cub Scout Pack 4 collected more than 750 pounds of food, and Rome resident Kenny Hudson collected 200 pounds from friends and family. The total amount of pet food donated was 2,500 pounds. ARF also received pallets to help with the shipping. Richard Jenson, ARF volunteer and transporter, had the difficult

responsibility of collecting and delivering all the donations.

“If people would like to continue to donate for Irma and Georgia displaced animals, please take to these locations and we will pick up,” said Sue Voils, co-president of ARF. Items donated can include stainless steel bowls, harnesses, collars and leashes, cat litter, can and dry food, beds, crates and any other items.

The Animal Rescue Foundation of Rome Floyd has existed since 2011 as a nonprofit orga-

nization providing vetting to local shelter and abandoned animals, as well as getting animals to rescues and homes. “Many of our dogs are special needs,” said Greta Willoughby, co- president, explained.

If you would like to support ARF you can mail a check to P. O. Box 682, Rome, GA 30162.

Donations may also be made by PayPal on the ARF’s website www.ArfRomeFloyd.com or support the two fundraisers in October: The annual dinner on Oct. 12 and a car show on Oct. 14.
