McKibben tosses shutout for Lady Tigers

Josi McKibben threw six shutout innings, had three RBIs and was part of an 11-hit attack by the Darlington softball team Thursday in a huge 8-0 win over Region 6-A foe Trion.

Playing on the road, Darlington held on to an early 1-0 lead before pushing two runs across in the fourth. Taking a 4-0 advantage into the sixth, the Lady Tigers doubled their lead and held on to end the game because of the run rule.

Sydney Seymour had three hits and an RBI for Darlington ( 7- 7, 3- 3 6- A), while Ellie Gillis and Caroline Dingler each had two hits and Alex Gardner had an RBI as well. McKibben struck out two and allowed just two hits in the complete game effort.

Darlington hosts Bowdon on Monday.

Rockmart 10, Dade County 2, 5 innings

A five-run third inning put Rockmart in control of a Region 7-AA contest Thursday and a three-run fifth rounded out a 10-2 win over visiting Dade County.

Carlee Graham had three RBIs for the Lady Jackets, who remain undefeated this season, while Cambree Stanley added two RBIs.

VOLLEYBALL: Armuchee splits tri-match

Brandy Ann Wacker had eight kills and 12 aces on the day, and freshman Mercedes McLaughlin recorded eight aces as Armuchee split a pair of matches Thursday at home.

The Lady Indians came up short to Cherokee County (Ala.), 23-25, 16-25, but then recovered to defeat Woodland 25-13, 25-8 to complete to two non-area matches. Grace Stanley had seven kills for Armuchee, while Bridgette Jones had six kills and Carson Powell added 18 assists.
