Arsenal teams kick off the regular season

Competitio­n heated up for the Rome YMCA Arsenal Select teams this past weekend, while the younger Academy teams continued their season with matches in Duluth to properly open the fall season.

The Select teams ( ages 13 and over) went 6- 6 on the weekend, while the Academy teams came away with an 8-3 record.

The G14- DW team recorded two away wins, defeating Georgia Storm 1- 0 in Villa Rica and North Georgia 3- 0 in Dahlonega, putting the Arsenal team in first place with 10 points.

Joey Kunczewski netted the lone goal for Arsenal against Georgia Storm in the first half. Deyvis Reader recorded five saves in goal, including a late diving effort to preserve the win and the shutout.

Ashley Marin opened the scoring late in the first half against North Georgia off an assist from Sophia Campa. Carlee Brock added the second goal early in the second half, and Marin closed out the game with a goal in the waning moments.

The G16- D team split two games over the weekend, beating Jackson County’s Alliance Premier 5- 3 before losing to SSA’s Cartersvil­le Green, leaving Arsenal in second place.

The G14-DE team lost to Inter Atlanta Excel 2-0. The G16A team lost to UFA Red 4- 1. The G19-AN team lost to Athens United Gold 4-2. The B15-I team lost to GSA Premier 5-0. The B15-VW team lost to Concorde Fire White 5-2.

For the Academy teams, the B11 team beat Express Juventus 8- 3 and Bryson Park Ceron 4- 2. Tripp Watterson led the way against Juventus with a hat trick, while Zeke Donner had two goals. Angel Tapia, Giovani Echanique and Klae Theakston each had one goal. Price opened the scoring against Bryson Park Ceron, with Theakston, Tapia and Girgis getting the other goals.

The B10 team lost to Brookhaven 4- 0 before coming back with a 4- 0 win over Express Genoa. Jackson Cepeda and Emmett Holcombe worked in goal for Arsenal against Brookhaven, with Cepeda recording seven saves in the first half and Holcombe finished with nine in the second half.

AG Edwards, Spencer Baker, Nicholas Styperek and Cepeda all scored against Express Genoa.
