UCB adds Taylor to Rome Board of Directors
United Community Bank welcomes Fred Taylor to its Board of Directors in Rome, Georgia. Mr. Taylor is the founder of several businesses including OTR Wheel Engineering, Blackstone OTR, and Green Carbon, which are located in Rome, along with Silverstone Inc., Omaha, Nebraska, OTR Europe, OTR Thailand, OTR Canada, OTR China, and OTR Sri Lanka.
“As an entrepreneur and innovator in our community, we believe Fred will bring a unique and valuable perspective to the table,” said Steve Kemp, Regional President of United Community Bank, Northwest Georgia. “We are thankful to have him as a part of our Board of Directors and are eager to work with him.”
Mr. Taylor is also the owner of Sommerset Pointe Yacht Club and Marina in Boyne City, Michigan, and Charlevoix Country Club in Charlevoix, Michigan. He has served on boards at King University in Bristol, Tennessee, Haggai Institute in Norcross, Georgia, and Christ Tabernacle Church in Queens, New York. He is on the board for the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Youth for Christ. Currently, he is a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Governor’s Board of Workforce Development for the State of Georgia.
A Michigan native, Mr. Taylor attended college at Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan, majoring in mechanical engineering. After college, he returned to his hometown and worked in the Taylor family business until 1982, when he moved his family to Rome to start his own business.
“I enjoy giving back to the business community and feel this is a great way to contribute to the economic prosperity of Rome,” said Mr. Taylor. “By contributing my knowledge, I hope to support ‘The Bank That Service Built’ and am excited to join forces with prominent business leaders in the area.”
Mr. Taylor and his wife, Mary VanderArk, have five children; Chadwick, Eric, Andrew, Kelly, and Elisabeth Taylor, and six grandchildren.
