The Floyd County Board of Commission­ers and the Floyd County Board of Education will have a called joint meeting today in the Evergreen Meeting Room at Hawthorn Suites, N. Second Ave., at 6 p.m. The meeting is open to the public. The meeting is for discussion only, no action will be taken.

The Berry College Society of Physics Students will host a free science cafe today at 8 p.m. at Jamwich, 510 Broad St. Berry College Professor of Physics and Astronomy Todd Timberlake will lecture on exoplanets and the possibilit­y of extraterre­strial life and participat­e in a question-and-answer session. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Food will be available for purchase.

The Animal Rescue Foundation will host Wags, Whiskers & Wine from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rome Civic Center, 400 Civic Center Drive. The event will feature Libby Gore of In the Hills, a profession­al tarot reader, a silent auction, and beer and wine. Entertainm­ent will be provided by Jason Smith. Advance tickets are $45 each or $75 for couples. Tickets at the door will cost $50 each. Chieftains Museum

will hold its fall plant sale through Friday. The sale includes evergreens, shrubs, trees and perennials of several varieties. All plants must be pre-ordered and paid for before Friday. Plants can be picked up at the museum on Oct. 20. Proceeds benefit the museum to fund operations and programs including the Major Ridge Demonstrat­ion Garden.
