Over $1,600 in items stolen from car at Heritage Park

A Shorter University student had three items valued at a total of $1,602 stolen from his vehicle at Heritage Park on Monday night while he was refereeing youth football games. According to Rome police reports: The man had parked his 2001 Chevrolet Silverado near the baseball fields at 255 Jewel Frost Drive around 4:45 p.m. Monday. He got back to the car around 8 p.m. and found a small hole under the handle on the driver’s side door where a tool had been used to damage the lock.

A Dell laptop, valued at $900, a diamond ring, valued at $700, and a $2 bill were taken from the vehicle. The laptop was in a backpack in the backseat and the other items were in the center console.

Radio screen taken from truck in restaurant parking lot

A man’s 7-inch JVC radio screen valued at $750 was taken from his truck that was parked behind La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant around 8:15 p.m. Monday. According to Rome police reports: Someone had rammed a screwdrive­r under the handle to break the lock and get inside the 2003 Chevrolet Z71 near 413 Turner McCall Blvd. The alarm had gone off, but the switch to it had been pulled out to cut it off.

Nothing else was taken from the vehicle. Police were able to pull a single

fingerprin­t from around the lock — more couldn’t be gathered due to rain.

Rome man faces felony charge of tampering with evidence

A Rome man was in jail on felony charges Tuesday after he reportedly had hidden a gun that one woman used to threaten another. According to Floyd County Jail records: Lamario Andrus Majors, 36, of 110 Holly St., was arrested on a warrant Monday and charged with felony tampering with evidence.

He is accused of hiding the gun Jessica Noel Jackson used to threaten Wanda Jean Chambers when the two got into a fight Sept. 30 at the E Building of Callier Forest Apartments, 131 Dodd Blvd. Chambers reportedly had a hammer and both women were charged with aggravated assault.

Majors removed the pistol from the scene “to prevent apprehensi­on and obstruct prosecutio­n” of Jackson, the warrant states. He’s also facing a misdemeano­r charge of obstructio­n.

He was being held Tuesday morning pending a $3,500 bond.
