The Rome Floyd Chamber of Commerce is celebrating high-tech activity across the community with its annual fall Geek Week through Friday. The celebration begins tonight with a trivia event at the Dark Side of the Moon at 236 Broad St.

The week-long series of events was conceived of to promote a culture of innovation and technology, Chamber Small Business and Entrepreneurial Coordinator Drew Wharton said.

“It is a part of our RomeFloyd 20/20 plan,” Wharton said, referring to the chamber’s long range blueprint for economic development. “Geek Week is an activity oriented event.”

There is a $5 charge to get into the Trivia Night event. Wednesday a Robotic Showcase will be held on the campus of Darlington School.

“The Floyd County College and Career academy and 100 Black Men are bringing students to that showcase as well,” Wharton said. That event will start at 4 p.m.

Thursday night’s event will be a Business After Hours program at JBM Office Solutions, 519 Broad St., beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, the Geek Week Hack-a-Thon will be held at the Hackberry Lab on the Berry College campus from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“People will be able to bring materials to solve a problem they have identified and will have four hours to try to find a solution,” Wharton said. “At the end of the night they judge whoever had the best project, working prototype and that sort of thing.”
