The AIDS Resource Council will hold its annual chili dinner on Saturday at Skyhaven, 23 Turnbull Drive, at 6 p.m. There will be a variety of chilies with assorted toppings, libations and desserts and a silent auction of works by local artists. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at State Mutual Stadium. Walk participants will complete a 2-mile walk and learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Participants will also join in a tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Sign up as a team captain, join a team or register to walk individually at www.georgiawalk.org.
The Georgia Northwestern Technical College horticulture program is holding a fall shrub and pansy sale at the greenhouses and Building L at the Floyd campus, 1 Maurice Culberson Drive, continuing through Oct. 20 or until sold out. The sale will be held 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-7 p.m. on Thursdays and 8 a.m.-noon on Fridays. Buyers should come to Building L first. A variety of shrubs will be available. Pansies include a mixture of clear face, white with blotch and yellow with blotch. Proceeds benefit the horticulture program. Purchases may be made with cash or check.
Compassionate Paws will host Meet and Treat at Ridge Ferry Park, 363 Riverside Parkway, on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Information and demonstrations will be available about pet therapy, dog training, pet adoptions and animal care. There will treats for pets and their humans. The event is free and open to the public. Please bring your pets only if they have been vaccinated and are healthy and flea-free.
