RACA calls for artists, architects
Rome Area Council for the Arts is calling artists and architects to come forward.
The 5th Annual Rome Community HeART Project is just around the corner. For the last five years, RACA has partnered with Redmond Regional Medical Center to display public art to the community for people to enjoy and admire while bringing awareness to heart health.
RACA is asking local artists to submit applications and designs for this year’s HeART Project.
Mandy Maloney, executive director of RACA said the community is encouraged to enter designs, which can be submitted up until Nov. 17, portraying their interpretations of “heart health.”
In previous years, independent artists, nonprofit groups, businesses and students have all participated in the community-wide project.
If a submitted design is selected, artists will be able to choose between a large concrete “heART” or a heart garland to decorate and design. Participants will then be asked to design the hearts in a way that conveys their perception of heart health awareness.
Once displayed downtown, hearts will be voted on by the community through RACA’s Facebook page.
Maloney said one of RACA’s hopes for the project was for Rome and Floyd County residents to visit the downtown area, experience the art for themselves as well as be made more aware of the need for heart health.
Applications and guidelines are available on the RACA website, www. romearts.org. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 17.
RACA is also hosting a design competition for local architects to submit designs for an arts amphitheater and exhibition space to be located on the grounds of the Rome-Floyd County Library.
The amphitheater will have the ability to host installations as a pedestrian gallery and will welcome live performances and events. This permanent structure will be utilized by the community, with an emphasis on arts organizations, performances, art exhibits and demonstrations.
“The artistic community in Rome is thriving and our mission is to continue to pour into that movement to positively impact the lives of our citizens,” Maloney said. “Once completed, we expect this area to become one of Rome’s favorite places to engage with the arts and each other.”
Submissions are due on Nov. 21 and can be emailed to info@romarts.org. They should include the architect’s professional and insurance credentials, a sketch of the proposed amphitheater structure, a schematic drawing for the entire project area and a proposal for construction documents and contract administration of Phase I with a budget of $90,000.
