3rd accused of taking money for constructi­on work not done

A second Rome man accused of taking money for a constructi­on project under false pretenses turned himself in Tuesday. Two other people connected with the case have been in jail since Oct. 14.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Payton Randall Porter, 26, of 207 Alexander Ave., is accused of not providing the materials or starting work after taking $2,750 on June 6 to build a metal outbuildin­g at a Hicks Drive property.

He turned himself in on a warrant charging him with felony theft by conversion of payments for real property and was released from jail on a $3,500 bond.

Jackie Randall Porter, 66, of the same address, was jailed Oct. 14 on the same charge along with Patricia Jane Porter, 66, of 548 Agan Road in Bremen.

Patricia and Jackie Porter are each facing seven felony conversion charges as well as felony exploitati­on of disabled or elder adults.

The two also are wanted in Cherokee County, Alabama, on unspecifie­d charges and Jackie Porter also is being held for the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office. They were in the Floyd County Jail without bond Tuesday.

Report: Silver Creek woman arrested after fight at home

A Silver Creek woman charged with felony criminal damage to property was in jail Tuesday pending a $3,900 bond.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Moira Rhiannon McPherson, 23, of 2182 Pleasant Valley Road in Silver Creek, was arrested at her home Monday night and charged with two counts of second-degree criminal damage to property and two counts of battery under the Family Violence Act.

McPherson is accused of punching two women in the head and face and causing more than $500 worth of damage to their belongings.

Police: Man had stolen license plate on car

A Rome man was released from jail Tuesday on a $6,500 bond, after police said he was driving a car bearing a stolen license plate.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Jeremy Calloway, 28, of 101 Wilshire Road, was arrested on Shorter Avenue early Tuesday morning.

Calloway is charged with felony theft of a license plate and the misdemeano­rs driving under the influence of drugs, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug-related objects, no insurance and improper lane change.

Woman facing felony drug charges after traffic stop

A Rome woman was arrested on felony drug charges after police noticed she was driving with her windshield wipers on when it wasn’t raining.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Kathy Brooks Burger, 54, of 48 Cornerston­e Drive, was released on $7,800 bond Tuesday. She had been driving 22 to 28 mph in a 40 mph zone on Shorter Avenue with her windshield wipers going Monday when an officer stopped her at Marigold Road just before 11 p.m.

As Burger was digging through her purse for her license, the officer saw a small, clear bag containing a crystallin­e substance. She had dilated pupils, was moving sporadical­ly and said she had taken speed.

A search of her purse following her arrest turned up methamphet­amine, Abilify, Xanax packaged for sale, marijuana and a glass pipe.

Burger was charged with the felonies possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule IV controlled substance and possession of meth.

She’s also facing misdemeano­r counts of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, prescripti­on drugs not kept in the original container, possession of a drug-related object, DUI drugs and failure to maintain a lane. Diane Wagner, staff writer

2 purses, $500 taken from vehicle in parking lot

A couple’s vehicle had a number of items with a total value of $545 taken from their vehicle Monday night while it was left unlocked in a parking lot at 900 Shorter Ave.

According to Rome police reports:

The couple had parked their blue Jeep on the lot around 7 p.m. Monday and left it unlocked. When they got back around 9 p.m., a selfie stick that was left in the door compartmen­t was on the ground next to the passenger-side door. Items kept in the glove box and center console were strewn about the vehicle as well.

Two purses, valued at $45 together, were taken. One of the purses had $500 in it, along with several debit and credit cards.

17-year-old charged with bringing meth into YDC

A Rome teenager has been accused of bringing methamphet­amine across the guard line at the Regional Youth Detention Center in West Rome.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Tristan Akins, 17, was charged with felony crossing a guard line with an illegal substance for bringing methamphet­amine or other drugs into the YDC at 200 Marable Way Sunday without consent of the director.

Akins was being held in the Floyd County Jail Tuesday night without bond.

Rome woman arrested in West Rome with meth

Rome Floyd Metro Task Force personnel arrested a woman Tuesday morning on charges of possession of methamphet­amine and drug related objects.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Tammy Jean Hatcher, 36, of 2531 Shorter Ave., was arrested at her residence around 10:30 Tuesday morning when task force personnel found a quantity of meth and a glass smoking device.

Hatcher was being held in the Floyd County Jail Tuesday night without bond. Doug Walker, associate editor
