Fire damages home in South Rome

- Spencer Lahr, staff writer

A couple had just begun moving into a quadruplex unit at 415 Wilson Ave. Thursday when a fire erupted in the kitchen.

According to Battalion Chief Gene Proctor:

One of the new tenants said the family had just hooked the stove up and all at once they discovered the kitchen on fire.

Engine companies were able to get a quick knockdown of the flames without anyone getting hurt seriously. One man was still inside the house when the first responders got to the scene. “He actually got disoriented and got into the back of the house,” Proctor said. “Our crews found him in the back and got him outside of the house. There was a little smoke inhalation, but he’s OK.”
