Anderson stays humble in spotlight season

Spotting Rome High defensive end Adam Anderson during a game isn’t too hard. His 6-foot-5 frame takes care of that.
Standing out on the field is something the senior has done throughout his career, and it has led to a stream of recognition, most recently receiving his jersey for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl this week in front of students, coaches and family.
But Anderson is quick to point out that he knows to stay down to earth, and that it’s the work of the players around him that allows him to be a dominant force on Friday nights.
A four-star recruit and the consensus No. 2 prospect in the nation at outside linebacker, Anderson verbally committed to Georgia last month and is seen as a difference-maker for the Bulldogs’ 2018 recruiting class.
Heading into the playoffs, he said having his college choice set and getting his official selection to the U.S. Army AllAmerican Bowl taken care of have been a relief.
“It’s exciting to know that you can relax and that things are going your way. But also know that you have to stay humble and be thankful,” Anderson said. “Thankful for God and all the blessings.”
“I think one thing to address is it’s still pretty hard to single out Adam among some of the guys on the team,” Rome head coach John Reid said. “And Adam knows that and he talks about it often. He’s come a long way, just like all of these kids have.”
After leading Rome with 31 tackles for loss and nine sacks during the Wolves’ state championship season a year ago, Anderson has 52 tackles, 25 for loss, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and three pass breakups through the regular season this year.
He also said a big part of the postseason will be the team’s strength in playing together and increasing the bond that they have developed not just this season but the seasons before.
Anderson is part of one of the best defensive lines in the state, which includes fellow Division I commits Ja’Quon Griffin, Jamarcus Chatman and TJ Cammack. Together, that have caused havoc for every opponent they’ve faced this season.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl will be held Jan. 6 in San Antonio’s Alamodome and features 100 of the top seniors in the country in an East vs. West matchup broadcast live on NBC.
