Betty Nolen

Betty Nolen, age 71, died suddenly Monday, Nov. 6, 2017.

She was a former director of the Small Business Developmen­t Center and for many years had been Professor of Accounting at Georgia Highlands College, retiring in 2015.

Mrs. Nolen was a native of Floyd County, the daughter of the late John Thomas (Jay) Selman and the late Annie Elizabeth Grigsby. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Berry College, her MBA from West Georgia College, with additional graduate work at Clemson University and Georgia State University. Over the years she had attained several certificat­ions including CPA, CMA, CFA, and CFM. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Rome. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Nolen; son, Phillip (Amy) Nolen of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Wanda (Barry) Whitlock of Rome; brother, Mark (Pamela) Barlow of Jacksonvil­le, Fla.; aunt, Ellen Mathis of Rome, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Selman; her stepfather­s, G. B. Barlow Jr., and Charles Grigsby.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home with Mr. Joe Robinson officiatin­g.
