City to vote on unopened road
Officials also discuss development prospects around Braves Boulevard.
Rome’s Public Works committee will carry a recommendation to formally close an unopened section of road off Braves Boulevard to the full City Commission tonight.
During a special called meeting of the committee the panel learned that there may be a deal in the works to sell off property adjacent to the Line-X business.
The 3.12-acre site is owned by Northwest Georgia LLC. A small sliver of the land just east of the Armuchee Connector is also owned by Floyd County.
Doc Kibler, one of the Northwest Georgia LLC partners, could not provide any details.
Kibler and Dee Yancey acquired much of the property surrounding the Braves’ stadium and have had it on the market for years.
They sold a large tract just west of the stadium
to Charles Williams Real Estate for the RiverPoint Apartments which are
well underway with the first units to be open in the spring of 2018.
“When we did all of this stuff with Charlie Williams and them, it was with the hope it would springboard more development and without question that has been the case through the rest of this year,” Kibler said.
Kibler said he and Yancey have seen interest in the remaining parcels pick up significantly and in fact they have sold another 1.2-acre tract right at the intersection of Brave Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Highway to Lumina LLC for $700,000.
“I can’t say too much about it,” Kibler said. He said construction on that site should get underway within the next couple of months.
