LED lights, pathways partnership up for Rome BOE
Rome City Schools is wanting to test an energy-savings project that would see lighting at two schools.
Rome City Schools is looking to work with Georgia Power to test an energy-savings project that would see lighting at two elementary schools replaced with LED light fixtures, but only a “few” rooms would see work done to start, according to Superintendent Lou Byars.
The Rome Board of Education will review the project during its meeting this evening at 5:45 p.m. in the boardroom at the central office, 508 E. Second St. The board will caucus at 5 p.m. in Byar’s office.
West End and West Central elementary schools would be the schools to initially see work, Byars said. The system wouldn’t take on any cost for the work and retrofit kit replacements up front, he added. The board needs to approve the project for the system to move forward.
Also, the system is seeking to have Northwest Georgia Housing Authority as a partner for its construction career pathways. Board approval is needed to start talks to develop an MOU — memorandum of understanding. The construction pathways would use a NWGHA facility under the partnership. Tim Williams, the system’s chief operations officer, will update the board on the education local option sales tax collections for September.
The Focus on Student Achievement school this month is West Central Elementary, and Principal, Leslie Dixon, will be presenting.
