Property taxes for Rome and Floyd County are due today. Taxes can be paid by mail at P.O. Box 26 Rome, GA 30162, in person at the Historic Courthouse, 4 Government Plaza or online at www.floydcount­ytax.com. Any bill that is mailed and postmarked by today will be considered paid on time. There is a drop box in the courthouse parking lot. A drop box will be placed in the lobby of the historic courthouse during the last few days of this week. Property taxes must be paid by today’s due date to avoid late fees. Interest accrues on the 16th of each month after the due date until the bill is paid in full; 120 days from the due date a 5 percent penalty is applied plus a lien attaches to the property with associated lien charges. The Floyd County Board of Commission­ers Public Works Committee will meet today at 7:30 a.m. in the second floor conference room, Suite 207 of the Administra­tion Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office will be accepting applicatio­ns for the Sheriff’s Santa Program at Good Neighbor Ministries, 208 E. Second St., through Friday. Applicatio­ns for children ages 0-15 must be submitted in person from 1-5 p.m. Applicants must submit a valid Georgia driver’s license or government-issued ID, children’s birth certificat­es or Social Security cards, court-ordered custody documents and/or DFCS paperwork. Applicatio­ns cannot be taken during regular business hours at Good Neighbor Ministries or the Sheriff’s Office locations. Silver Creek United Methodist Church, 36 Reeceburg Road, Silver Creek, will be a collection point for Operation Christmas

Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse which collects shoe boxes filled with gifts for children and distribute­s them around the world. Collection dates and times are today from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon, Friday from 4-6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon, Sunday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and Monday from 10 a.m.-noon.

Floyd County Superior Court Clerk Barbara H. Penson requests that veterans of all military branches of service be sure their DD-214 discharge is recorded at the courthouse. Veterans may record their DD-214 in Floyd County in addition to their hometown, county or state. Bring a DD-214 to the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, 3 Government Plaza, Suite 101, to have it recorded for Floyd County. This is a free service.
