Shared Learning Experiences: Book of the Month

-

Each month, students throughout the school read a book and respond to it in writing. Students also complete a grade-appropriate math task related to the book. For the month of September, students read The A+ Custodian by Louise Borden and wrote letters of appreciation to Mrs. Willie Wright, Mrs. Ingrid Dowdy and Mr. John Jester.

Student Writing:

“Dear Mrs. Wright, Our classroom loves you. You are a good custodian. You help kids and thats what we like. Mrs. Wright your a good cleaner. Thank you for cleaning our desk and tables. Mrs. Wright your the best of being really kind. You totally rock. Love, Melany Hernandez, second grade.”

“Dear Mr. Jester, I really appriciate you making sure our school is clean everyday and putting such lovely effort when you clean. I honestly can tell a LOT that this school is a lot cleaner than my old school back in Florida and that is because of you! There are a lot of reasons why you make the perfect A+ janitor! Bust one of the reasons why you make the perfect A+ janitor is because you wake up and come to school when I’m asleep. Honestly I can’t even imagin myself waking up when I know that everybody is sleeping cozy in their bed and having to go clean. I think that takes a lot of heart! Well, I hope that you read this and relize that you mean a lot to this school!. Sincerely, Luna Prieto, fifth grade.”

“Dear Ms. Ingrid, As a student at West Central Elementary School, I deeply thank you for what you do. I would classify you as an independent, hard working young lady. I saw you on a Thursday and I greeted you and you greeted me. Even though it had been raining you still had a smile on your face and sang. Although your job may be tough you are still in a positive mood. I appreciate you for many things. First cleaning all of the desks in the early morning. Second, mopping and sweeping the gym. Third, cleaning the entire cafeteria. Last but certainly not least, I am thankful for you cleaning the boys and girls restroom. Remember this, never give up. Your friend, Rachel Perez-Hernandez, sixth grade.”
