Report: Man slapped mom, choked dad

An East Rome man was arrested Friday morning as the result of an investigation by officers from the Rome-Floyd metro Task Force.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Travis Lamont Cofield, 30, of 2005 Flannery St., was arrested at his home around 10:30 Friday morning on seven felony drug charges and a weapons charge.

Task Force agents executed a search warrant at the Cofield residence and recovered marijuana, methamphetamine, a Schedule I synthetic drug, ecstasy, heroin, undisclosed drug-related objects and a handgun.

Cofield was charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II substance with the intent to distribute, felony possession of a Schedule I substance, felony possession of a Schedule II substance, felony possession of a synthetic substance, felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and a misdemeanor for possession of drug related-objects.

He was being held in the Floyd County Jail on Friday night without bond.

Also, a 1990 Ford Mustang Coupe was stolen off the lot sometime between the night of Nov. 9 and the morning of Nov. 10. Surveillance footage shows a man walk from the tree line behind the business up to the Mustang. It took almost 30 minutes for the man to get the vehicle started before driving it off the lot.

A Rome man was in jail without bond Friday afternoon after being accused of slapping his mother and then choking his father during a fight.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Tomas Valdez, 23, of 215 Paris Drive, was arrested Thursday at 11 a.m. He is charged with felony aggravated assault and simple battery.

Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, he got in a fight with his parents at his home. After slapping his mother in the face, he wrapped his arm around his father’s neck to cut off blood flow.
