Winter Art Market
The annual local showcase will return to the Rome Civic Center for its sixth year Dec. 2-3.
The Rome Civic Center will once again open its doors to an event that, for many Rome residents, staple of their holiday season schedule.
The annual Winter Art Market, now in its sixth year, will take place Dec. 2 and 3 at the Rome Civic Center on Jackson Hill.
The Market celebrates Georgia artists, crafters, authors and growers. With an expanded collection of gift foods and outdoor decor, the market will provides shoppers with a variety of items and many see it as a great opportunity to buy locally-made holiday gifts.
Presented by the Last Stop Gift Shop and Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau, the event will feature 60 different vendors displaying and selling everything from fine art and pottery, to baked goods and jellies & jams, handmade jewelry and literature.
Charlene Mathis, manager of the Visitor Center and Last Stop Gift Shop, said the event has grown larger and more inclusive each year.
“As time goes by we’ve expanded everything about the event, she said. “This is an indoor/outdoor event with all sorts of great things to see and buy as well as live music and food.”
David Elliot will be providing live music at this year’s event and there will be food vendors including Fairview School, Doug’s Deli, barbecue and funnel cakes. But the art is always the focus of the event. Mathis said Rome and area residents will find fun and unique items that have all been handmade.
“That’s the emphasis of the Art Market,” she said. “First and foremost we want to support Georgia artists. All our artists are from the state of Georgia and most of them are Rome area artists. This is a great place to pick up holiday gifts for your friends and family and know that these things have been handmade.”
Some of the more than 50 artists who’ll be at this year’s Market include Hillary Knight and feltwork, Kim Vasil who creates unique goblets with wine, martini and margarita glasses, Paul Craighead and his whimsical pottery pieces and jugs, Renee Bowen and her vibrantly colored tiles and Jane Lowrey with her wired and ceramic jewelry.
The Market will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 2 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 3.
