Molotov cocktail causes $10,000 in damage to Canton probation office

Investigat­ors have ruled an early morning fire at a Canton probation office as arson, according to officials. Deputy Insurance and Safety Fire Commission­er Jay Florence said at about 5 a.m. Monday a suspect threw a Molotov cocktail through the window of the Department of Community Supervisio­n probation office at 100 Medical Lane in Canton.

“Obviously our investigat­ors determined it was arson,” he said. “There was substantia­l damage done to the lobby. The estimates are about $10,000 worth of damage.”

No injuries were reported from the blaze, Florence said.

There are no lead suspects at this time, however Florence encouraged anyone with any informatio­n

about the fire to call the state’s arson hotline at 1-800-282-5804 to leave tips.

“There can be an award of up to $10,000 for informatio­n which leads to the

arrest and conviction of the individual­s responsibl­e for this,” he said.

Canton Police are assisting in the arson investigat­ion as well, Florence said.
