Assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. will examine all aspects of the Rome Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services. The Telephone Retirees will have their regular monthly meeting and Christmas Dinner Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Charles C. Parker Senior Center, 1325 Kingston Highway. Meat will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish as well as a new unwrapped toy. They also need Christmas coffee cups for a project they are working on with Angel Express. The Rome Art Coterie will have their monthly meeting and annual Christmas party Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Maker Village on Fifth Avenue. This will be a potluck dinner. Attendees are asked to bring a small artwork or handmade ornament for a gift exchange.

Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home, 501 Riverside Parkway, will host “Santa’s Workshop” for families and children of all ages on Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Visitors will tour the museum with its holiday decorations and create Christmas crafts to keep or share. Children will also be able to write a letter to Santa and mail it at the Chieftains Museum Magic Mailbox. Entry is $5 for adults and free for children. Oak Hill & the Martha Berry Museum will host Victorian Christmas Tours on Saturday from noon- 5 p.m. that allow visitors to experience the holidays as they were celebrated during the time of Martha Berry’s childhood. Tours start on the hour with the last tour at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students and free for children under 5. Blood Assurance is requesting blood donations at local donor centers or bloodmobile drives. There is less than a one day supply of O negative blood and the community is asked to donate to help guarantee blood is available for hospital patients. Donors must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with parental consent, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids, avoid caffeine and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. The Rome-Floyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway, will host an eightpanel touring photographic exhibition from Atlanta’s Michael C. Carlos Museum through today. “Discover the Stories of Civilization: Stories of Beauty, Power, Love, Glory and Faith” highlights 15 treasures from the museum’s collections of art from Egypt, the Near East, Greece, Rome, Africa, the Americas and Asia. The exhibition’s statewide tour is part of a new partnership between the Michael C. Carlos Museum and the Georgia Public Library Service that also allows residents with valid library cards to check out a museum family pass, which is valid for up to six free admissions.

PAWS, 99 North Ave., is waiving adoption fees through Friday with donation of a new, unwrapped children’s toy. Toys will be distributed to local groups including Floyd County Sheriff’s Santa, Angel Tree, The Salvation Army and Toys for Tots. Donations of toys without adoption also will be accepted. Adoptive families will still be responsible for spay or neuter and vaccination costs.
The Friends of the Library are currently offering their annual Christmas gift auction at the Rome-Floyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway. The last silent auction will close Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the local library.
Floyd County Superior Court Clerk Barbara H. Penson requests that veterans of all military branches of service be sure their DD-214 discharge is recorded at the courthouse. Veterans may record their DD-214 in Floyd County in addition to their hometown, county or state. Bring a DD-214 to the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, 3 Government Plaza, Suite 101, to have it recorded for Floyd County. This is a free service for all veterans.

Cave Spring Historical Society will host their annual Polar Bear Plunge on Jan. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Rolater Lake in Rolater Park, 13 Old Cedartown Road, Cave Spring.
