Over $6,400 missing from Waffle House

A division manager at Waffle House reported to Rome police Wednesday that the Shorter Avenue establishm­ent was missing $6,432.84, almost $4,000 of which was supposed to have been deposited into a local bank by an employee but never was.

According to Rome police reports:

The man told police the unit manager at the Waffle House at 1601 Shorter Ave. never made the four deposits, totaling $3,883.52, at Citizens First Bank, that he was supposed to on Saturday.

The unit manager had been arrested on numerous charges under the Family Violence Act early the next day. He left the cash in his vehicle, which his girlfriend drove away following his arrest.

The division manager tried to get in touch with her but was unable to.

It also was discovered that $2,549.32 was removed from the safe at the restaurant.

The unit manager and his girlfriend have not been charged from the incident.

Police investigat­ing credit card fraud

Personnel at Belk’s in Mount Berry Mall called Rome police Thursday to report the theft of more than $2,000 worth of merchandis­e on a fraudulent credit card.

According to Rome Police reports:

The local Belk’s store was notified by personnel in Atlanta of a scam in an Atlanta store that involved more than $3,200 in bad charges. When the Rome store checked its records, it discovered more than $2,600 in fraudulent purchases.

Rome Police are working with officials at Belk’s and authoritie­s in Atlanta on the case.

2 face drug charges after traffic stop

A Georgia State Trooper arrested two suspects on felony drug charges after a traffic stop at Pennington Avenue and Grover Street on Thursday afternoon.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

A woman, Starrhett McHenry, 21, of 21 Ross St., and Joshua Jermaine Hall, 29, of Covington, were taken to jail around 2 p.m. Thursday after a trooper pulled over the car McHenry was driving for his passenger not wearing a seat belt. The trooper later found a 1-year-old child in a rear seat that was not properly restrained.

The trooper noticed an odor of marijuana from the vehicle and Hall tried to run from the scene but was captured.

The trooper recovered more than $1,000 in cash from the vehicle, a large quantity of marijuana, some crack cocaine, two Schedule II pills and a set of scales.

McHenry was charged with felony possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and felony possession of a controlled substance along with misdemeano­rs for possession of drug-related objects, not having a license on his person and improper child restraint.

Hall was charged with felonies for possession of the crack cocaine and unlawful distributi­on of marijuana. He was also cited with misdemeano­rs for obstructio­n of officers, possession of drug related objects, giving a false name and failure to use safety restraints.

McHenry and Hall were both bring held in the Floyd County Jail Thursday night without bond.

Report: Man accused of choking woman

A Rome man was jailed after allegedly choking a woman at a location in East Rome.

According to Floyd County Jail reports; Thomas Vassel Allen III, 24, of 20 N. Blanche Ave. was arrested late Wednesday night after wrapping his hands around the neck of a woman at his home, which resulted in visible injury to the woman’s throat. The incident occurred in front of a 1-year-old child.

Allen was charged with felony aggravated assault and a misdemeano­r count of cruelty to children.

Allen was being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond Thursday night.

DUI arrest leads to felony drug charge

Rome Police made a traffic stop for a lane violation near State Mutual Stadium Thursday and ended up charging the motorist with felony possession of marijuana.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Chester Lee Rogers, 31, of 104 E. 11th St. was pulled over for an improper lane change at Braves Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Highway. The officer determined that Rogers was under the influence of synthetic marijuana and recovered a quantity of the substance from Rogers.

Rogers was being held without bond Thursday night, charged with felony possession of synthetic marijuana and misdemeano­rs for DUI and the lane change.

Jail inmate charged with creating a riot

An inmate in the Floyd County Jail faces new charges today after an incident Wednesday in the Floyd County Jail.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Corun J. Sellars, 30, of 123 Lindsey Road, got into a scuffle with a female deputy at the jail Wednesday afternoon.

Sellers was charged with a felony for riot in a penal institutio­n and felony obstructio­n of officers. He was also charged with a misdemeano­r for simple battery.
