Police investigat­ing East Rome armed robbery

Dollar Tree employees report a guntoting man jumped from behind a bush and took more than $3,000.

A lone gun-toting bandit robbed employees of the Dollar Tree, 104 Hicks Drive, as they were leaving work Wednesday night. According to Rome police reports: The two employees were leaving the store just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night when the bandit jumped out from behind a bush with a handgun and demanded the cash bag.

The man grabbed the bag, which contained over $3,000 in receipts, and fled.

A confidenti­al informant called 911 to say she watched a male subject run across railroad tracks behind the store and jump into a white Chevrolet Impala parked beside the Georgia Power work center.

The subject was described as approximat­ely 6 feet tall and was wearing a denim vest and black hoodie.

Rome man with axe charged with aggravated assault

A Rome Man was jailed after allegedly breaking into a residence with an axe in an apparent attempt to inflict bodily injury on the resident.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Gregory Brian Farmer, 31, of 202 E. 20th St., broke into a neighborin­g residence just before 7 p.m. Thursday night, using an axe to knock in the front door.

Farmer was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault, felony burglary and felony criminal damage to property.

Woman accused of stealing, cashing dead husband’s checks

A Rome woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing checks belonging to a deceased man and cashing them.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Tabitha A. Gresham, 44, of 1904 Maple Ave., is charged with felony forgery and felony theft by deception for taking three checks that were issued to the victim’s deceased husband and cashing them earlier this month.

One check was for $3,000, another was for $2,000 and the third was for $3,500.

The thefts reportedly occurred Dec.

13 and Gresham was arrested early Friday morning.

In addition to the two felony counts, Gresham was also charged with a misdemeano­r for theft by taking.

Enterprise car rental reports stolen 2013 Chevrolet Silverado

A Rome vehicle rental company filed a report of a stolen pick-up truck Thursday after being unable to locate their truck which was due to be returned late in November. According to Rome police reports: Personnel at Enterprise on Martha Berry Boulevard called police officers on Thursday after being unable to locate the man for almost a month.

The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado was rented the last week of October and was due back the last week of November.

Enterprise records indicate the suspect was a male from Michigan but police could not find informatio­n about the suspect.

The truck was valued at $43,300.

Police investigat­ing big theft from Victoria’s Secret in mall

Rome police are investigat­ing a $5,000 shopliftin­g incident at Victoria’s Secret in Mount Berry Mall. According to Rome police reports: Employees of the store reported that two women left the store around 1 p.m. Thursday without paying for tops, shorts, hoodies and other items of clothing that were valued at a total of $5,000.

Police are hoping to get a copy of video surveillan­ce of the incident to try to identify the suspects.
