Family-friendly New Year’s Eve event comes to city auditorium

- Electric Goes the Myth

A family friendly New Year’s Eve celebration comes to the Rome City Auditorium on Dec. 31.

The Callback Company will present Electric Goes the Myth band as well as members of the Callback Company and friends in an open mic setting with live piano accompaniment, with special guest host Russell Evans. The event runs from 8 p.m. to midnight. The public is invited to bring music and take a turn on the stage with pre-concert coaching available for a fee.

Electric Goes the Myth is a new band out of Rome. Members Andy Calvert, Kerry Harrell and Todd Burkhalter have joined forces to create their own unique sound. While pulling from early rock n roll influences such as The Beatles and Elton John and creatively mixing it with inspiration from bands like Soundgarden, Crash Kings and Coldplay, the three musicians have built quite an act.

Calvert takes center stage as vocalist while Burkhalter and Harrell support with pumping piano chords and blistering drums.

The Callback Company was created by North Georgia native Julie Bearden Carver and it is a training program for youth who audition for various competitions, productions, and college theatre or dance programs, specializing in audition preparation and professional exposure. Members of The Callback Company enjoy participating in mock auditions with feedback from local professionals, seminars with industry and college faculty representatives as an annual “Broadway Days” workshop in New York City.

The Callback Company also serves high school juniors and seniors who are in the process of applying for colleges by consulting with students on every detail from college selection and the application process to choosing audition materials and searching for scholarships.

General admission bracelets are available for $8 and will allow patrons to leave and reenter the event. Out of town guests may take advantage of a special group rate at the Hampton Inn and Suites Downtown Rome.
