Man charged with molestation
Email and text messages between a 27-year-old Gordon County man and a person “whom he believed to be” a 14-year-old have resulted in his arrest on felony aggravated child molestation charges.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Zachary Michael Baker, 27, of 610 College St. in Calhoun, was arrested Friday afternoon after arranging to meet a 14-year-old male in Floyd County for a sexual rendezvous.
Baker, who is being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond was also charged with felony obscene Internet contact with a child.
East Rome man accused of choking woman, fleeing police
An East Rome resident was being held in the Floyd County Jail on Saturday without bond after assaulting a woman at a home on Hull Avenue early Saturday morning, reports stated.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Xavier Cortez Cheeks, 30, of 904 Maple Ave., was arrested near the intersection of Crane Street and East 13th Street just before 3 a.m. Saturday.
Cheeks is accused of putting his hands around the throat of a 24-year-old woman during an assault at a home on Hull Avenue. When police arrived, Cheeks attempted to flee but was caught a couple of blocks away.
Cheeks was charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanors for simple battery and obstruction.
Tennessee man arrested following Saturday break-in
Rome police were able to respond quickly to a break-in early Saturday morning and arrest Tennessee man.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Aaron Arthur Levi, 33, of Martin, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. at 107 Wingfield St.
He entered a building at that location without permission and caused damage to private property. Levi is charged with felony burglary in the second degree and a misdemeanor for criminal trespassing.
Police investigate theft of business security system
Rome police are investigating the theft of surveillance equipment from a business in East Rome.
According to Rome police reports:
The victim called police Friday
to report the theft of a camera video system from storage units at 2039 Maple Ave. The theft supposedly occurred sometime on Dec. 20.
The owner of the units told police he was willing to not press charges if he could get the system back and gave police the name of a suspect. That person later denied any knowledge of the theft.
The system was valued at $1,600.
Computer and other items stolen from storage unit
Rome police are searching for a computers and other items stolen from a storage unit on Shorter Avenue last week. According to Rome police reports: A victim, who lives in Atlanta, called police Friday to report that her storage unit at 702 Shorter Ave. had been forcibly entered and that a desktop computer, monitor, keyboard, HP scanner and some framed artwork had been stolen.
The missing items were valued at $900.
