Blood Assurance is requesting blood donations at local donor centers or bloodmobil­e drives. There is less than a one day supply of O negative blood and the community is asked to donate to help guarantee blood is available for hospital patients. Donors must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with parental consent, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids, avoid caffeine and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. Floyd County Superior Court Clerk Barbara H. Penson requests that veterans of all military branches of service be sure their DD-214 discharge is recorded at the courthouse. Veterans may record their DD-214 in Floyd County in addition to their hometown, county or state. Bring a DD-214 to the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, 3 Government Plaza, Suite 101, to have it recorded for Floyd County. This is a free service for all veterans.

Berry College will host former Governor of New Jersey Christine Todd Whitman on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. as part of the Berry College Cecil B. Wright III Integrity in Leadership lecture series. The lecture will be held in the Krannert Ballroom at Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway, and is free and open to the public. Whitman is the president of The Whitman Strategy Group and served in the cabinet of President George W. Bush as Administra­tor of the Environmen­tal Protection Agency. She was the 50th Governor of the State of New Jersey from 1994 until 2001.

Darlington School, 1014 Cave Spring Road, will host Discover Darlington for prospectiv­e pre-K to 12th-grade day students and parents on Feb. 2 from 8:30-11 a.m.

A Winter Bazaar is coming to the Cherokee Golf and Country Club in Cedartown on Feb. 24 at 150 Club Drive from 8 a.m. to noon. Items for sale will include jewelry, baked and canned goods, wardrobe accessorie­s and home decor. Vendor applicatio­ns are being accepted, but a limited number of tables are for rent. The Detective Kristen Snead Hearne Memorial Foundation will host the Back the Badge festival and benefit concert on March 24. The festival will be held at Summervill­e Civic Center, 44 Highway 48, Summervill­e, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and feature vendors, raffles and an informatio­n booth from the Georgia Department of Correction­s. Admission is free. The benefit concert will be held at New Generation Church of God, 11 Kirby St., Summervill­e, from 6-9 p.m. Heartfelt, Just One, Kate Watson, Amber Maxey, Charlie Long and Shelia Minard will be performing. Proceeds will benefit the programs and activities of the foundation. Donations will be accepted at the door and offerings will be taken up for the performers.
