Tigers win 3rd straight

Darlington sweeps Pepperell as the season ramps back up.

- From staff reports

Both the Pepperell and Darlington basketball teams shook off the holiday rust with some nonregion contests Thursday evening in Lindale, both of which went to the visitors.

Darlington’s girls came away with a 57-33 win over the Lady Dragons, while the boys’ game went to Darlington after grinding out a 43-38 win against Pepperell. Darlington led 21-17 at halftime.

It’s the Tigers’ third win in a row, and first-year head coach Bradley Pierson said that maybe things are trending in the right direction as the Class A squad goes into the weekend with a 7-4 record.

JD Hull led Darlington with 17 points, while Andrew Land hit a pair of 3-pointers on the way to 11 points. Pepperell was led by Cameron Miles with 10.

The Dragons (4-5) will be back in action tonight as they host Gordon Central in a Region 7-AA contest. The girls’ game starts at 7 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.

Darlington’s boys will make the trip to Macon on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. game against First Presbyterian Day. The Lady Tigers won’t be back in action until Tuesday when both Darlington squads will host Bowdon at the Huffman Center.

Armuchee’s teams will be at Dade County tonight, while Coosa’s teams are at Chattooga as the 7-AA schedule hits high gear for the month of January. Model and Rome return to the court Saturday, with Model hosting Bremen and Rome hosting Villa Rica in Region 7-5A action.
