Chase from Alabama ends in Coosa

A 28-year-old flees down Alabama Highway near 100 mph before crashing.

A motorist from the metropolit­an Atlanta area is being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond after leading Cherokee County, Alabama, officers on a chase that ended after the driver rammed through a chain link fence on property off Mays Bridge Road on Thursday evening.

According to Floyd County Police reports:

Quantez Johnson, 28, of Ellenwood, was being pursued by Cherokee County, Alabama, authoritie­s and fled into Floyd County, speeding near 100 miles per hour toward Rome on Alabama Highway. Johnson made a right turn onto Mays Bridge Road and ended up driving through a locked gate and fence at the dead end near the Internatio­nal Paper property.

Johnson was brought to the Floyd County Jail to face felony counts of criminal damage to property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Cherokee County deputies found a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun in the vehicle.

It was not immediatel­y clear what Johnson was wanted for in Cherokee County.
