Wreck on Turner McCall sends bicyclist to RRMC

- Doug Walker, associate editor

A bicyclist was still being treated in the emergency room at Redmond Regional Medical Center on Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Turner McCall Boulevard at East Eighth Street.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Lee Bowden:

Kenneth Nichols, age and address not available, and a female friend were on separate bikes attempting to cross Turner McCall Boulevard around 2 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a 2016 Nissan Altima driven by Haley Paschal, 18, of Rockmart.

Bowden said Nichols and his friend were both riding east to west across Turner McCall when Paschal, apparently distracted by talking with a passenger in her car, ran the red light in front of Nichols.

Paschal was given a citation for running the light.
