The Floyd County Young Farmers chapter is hosting a meeting at the Gordon County Ag Center on Thursday at 6 p.m. Dinner will be available for a small cost. Floyd County Schools will accept applications for the Georgia Lottery Pre-Kindergarten Program
for the upcoming 2018-19 school year from Jan. 30
through Feb. 9 during regular school hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Applications may be picked up and returned to the following: Alto Park Elementary, Cave Spring Elementary, Garden Lakes Elementary, Glenwood Primary, Johnson Elementary, McHenry Primary, Model Elementary and Pepperell Primary. The guidelines to apply are: Proof of residence, one application per child, apply in the attendance area of the school in which you reside, and child must turn 4 years old before Sept. 1. Moon Gallery is presenting “Journals and Reading Lists” by Travis Head
through Feb. 8. The solo exhibit is autobiographical and uses drawing that is mediated by technology and entertainment. The Moon Gallery is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Blood Assurance is requesting blood donations at local donor centers or bloodmobile drives. There is less than a one-day supply of O negative blood and the community is asked to donate to help guarantee blood is available for hospital patients. Donors must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with parental consent, weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids, avoid caffeine and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. Berry College will host former Governor of New Jersey Christine Todd Whitman on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. as part of the Berry College Cecil B. Wright III Integrity in Leadership lecture series. The lecture will be held in the Krannert Ballroom at Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway, and is free and open to the public. Whitman served in the cabinet of President George W. Bush as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. She was the 50th governor of the State of New Jersey from 1994 until 2001. The Women’s Information Network will host a seminar by Dr. Jordan Greenbaum, “Human Trafficking Meets Healthcare: An Opportunity for Intervention,” on Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Building H, 1 Maurice Culberson Drive. The Porcelain Art Guild will meet Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. at Daisy Henderson’s studio. Anna Nichols will present the program, “Making Lace on Porcelain.” Attendees should bring a piece of porcelain, black ink and anise oil or black paint powder and a pen for porcelain.
Cross Fit UCS (Unity Christian School) will host the sixth annual Three Rivers Throwdown on Jan. 27 inside the Unity Christian School gym. The first workout will begin at 8:30 a.m. Last year over 50 teams of four from around the region participated. This is a fundraiser the Cross Fit, located inside the school, does for the athletics department every year. The public is invited.
