Police say the woman’s grandson is a possible suspect.

Rome police are looking into a woman’s vehicle being stolen from an Avenue A driveway, where she had left it earlier this month after it had broken down, and her grandson is a possible suspect.

According to Rome police reports:

The woman had been driving her burgundy 2003 Honda Odyssey on Avenue A on Jan. 7 when it broke down.

She was able to get permission from a resident on the street to park the van on the side of their driveway, until her grandson would be able to make repairs and bring it back to her.

On Jan. 21, her grandson went to work on the vehicle. However, he told her over the phone — he was using another person’s phone — that when he got there the van was gone.

He also told her the resident of the home had no information other than that the van wasn’t there anymore.

The grandson also didn’t state the address the van had been at and she was unable to recall where she parked it.

Police had found that her grandson had an “extensive criminal history, and may not be telling his grandmother … the truth about the vehicle.”
