-

Shorter University is pleased to announce the addition of Ken Whitlow as the university’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. He begins his duties in February.

Whitlow comes to Shorter from his position as Minister of Education and Business Administrator at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church.

“Ken Whitlow has a unique blend of experiences that have well prepared him to lead our Student Affairs division,” said Shorter University President Don Dowless. “He loves Shorter and the Rome community, having lived and ministered here for a number of years. We look forward to the work he will do enriching the experience that our students have during their time at Shorter. Most of all, Ken Whitlow loves the Lord Jesus Christ, seeks to honor Him in all he does, and lives out the university’s mission of Transforming Lives through Christ. We are excited to welcome him to the Shorter family.”

Whitlow earned a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of West Florida, a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Seminary and a Master of Counseling and Psychology from Troy University. He has previously served as a pastor at churches in Mobile, Alabama and Foley, Alabama, and as a counselor in Rome.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to serve at Shorter, and I believe the Lord has led the way here,” Whitlow said. “I am humbled by the confidence that Dr. Dowless and the university leadership have placed in me, and I look forward to being part of the Shorter community.”

Mr. Whitlow and his wife, Tracy, have three daughters: Laura, a Shorter graduate who is a math teacher at Adairsville High School; Emily, 20, a student at the University of North Georgia; and Sarah, 16, a junior at Rome High School.
