Woman robbed while in car at Rite Aid

Rome police are investigat­ing an armed robbery at Rite Aid where a woman had her wallet taken at gunpoint moments after she pulled into a parking spot at the store.

According to Rome police reports:

The woman said she had just pulled into a parking spot at the business at 2005 Maple St. around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, when a young man got into the passenger seat. Another man walked up to the driver’s side door and pulled a handgun on her.

“Where’s it at,” one of them said to her, as she began to kick, scream and fight, she told police. However, they were able to get away with her wallet, which had $180 and an assortment of cards, and head east on East 20th Street.

Rite Aid did not have camera footage of the incident.

Rhoten, who had felony warrants out for his arrest, ran to a parked vehicle and dropped a bag of meth, which police subsequent­ly found, before giving himself up. He was arrested about two minutes after the initial traffic stop at 2:26 p.m.

Dewitte wasn’t arrested until 2:57 p.m. She, too, was found to have meth on her.

Both are charged with felony possession of meth and misdemeano­r willful obstructio­n of law enforcemen­t officers, two counts each, and giving false name, address or birthdate to a law enforcemen­t officer.

Rhoten is additional­ly charged with a parole violation. Dewitte is also charged with possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and an additional charge of felony possession of meth. She is also charged with misdemeano­r possession of marijuana less than an ounce, possession and use of drugrelate­d objects, driving while license suspended or revoked, and failure to maintain a lane.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Horace Jenkins, 27, of 2765 Cherry Laurel Lane, Atlanta, was arrested on the RICO charge for his involvemen­t in a smash and grab burglary at a store on Alabama Highway on Oct. 8, 2016. The warrant alleges he was involved in several other similar crimes as part of a gang that operated out of the Oakland City section of Atlanta.

Jenkins was in jail without bond Friday night.

District Attorney Leigh Patterson is prosecutin­g the case in Rome.
