Area ‘mathletes’ come in 2nd
Rome Middle students place in the MATHCOUNTS regional finals.
A team of “mathletes” from Rome Middle School claimed second place in the regional finals of the MATHCOUNTS competition, which was sponsored by the Northwest Chapter of the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers.
Heritage Middle School won first place, and third place went to Dalton Middle School.
The math competition was held on Friday at Georgia Power’s operating headquarters in Floyd County.
Other schools represented were Dade Middle School, LaFayette Middle School and St. Mary’s Catholic School.
The regional competition is part of the MATHCOUNTS national mathematics coaching and competition program, which is nationally sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers.
The competition is designed to increase enthusiasm for and advance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States.
