5 indicted on drug charges in hotel raid

- From staff reports

Five people who were arrested at the Relax Inn on drug-trafficking charges in July were among 42 cases recently indicted by the Floyd County grand jury.

According to Floyd County Jail and Rome Police Department reports:

A Rome officer received a tip that a woman wanted on child support warrants was in Room 209 of the hotel at 1204 Martha Berry Blvd. When officers went to the room, they found the door partially open and the smell of marijuana coming from inside.

Kayla Mae Kinney tried to shut the door but they pushed in and saw drugs and several guns in plain sight. Officers then called the Metro Task Force to get a warrant to search the room.

A search turned up 28 grams of suspected synthetic marijuana as well as methamphetamine, three guns, a digital scale and a suspected marijuana cigarette.

Kinney, along with Eric Dennis McConnell, Timothy Derrel Dupree, Ronnie Jackson Vanmeter and Crashun Jogno Patio, were indicted on a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act charge on Feb. 9.
