- Spencer Lahr, staff writer

A Summerville man was in jail pending a $5,700 bond Thursday night after being accused of pointing a knife at a woman’s face while they sat at the Applebee’s bar, telling her that if she didn’t do what he wanted, he would kill everyone at the restaurant. He also is accused of resisting arrest and making a lewd comment to an officer.

According to Rome police reports:

Matthew Robert Carver, 29, of 438 Dry Creek Road, Summerville, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. He had told the woman while sitting at the bar that he wanted her to do something for him, but he wouldn’t tell her what he wanted until she said she would. After threatening her with a knife and making the comment about killing other patrons, she agreed to do what he wanted.

He wanted her to go across the bar and sit next to a group of guys and distract them because he “was having issues with them.” As she went across the bar, he picked up a knife off another man’s plate, but a bartender grabbed his hand and took it away from him. He was then escorted out of the bar.

A server told police later that as Carver was being led out of the restaurant, he said he was going to return and shoot everyone there.

When police initially arrived, they found Carver walking across the parking lot toward Steak & Shake and they put him into handcuffs as they investigated. After investigating, Carver resisted arrest. Additional police units had to be called get him into the back a patrol car. After multiple officers got him into the car, Carver began kicking officers, yelling and cursing along with saying he wanted to fight “man to man.”

Leather restraints had to be used on him to get him under control. Before being taken to jail, he yelled at an officer to give him oral sex, leading to a misdemeanor solicitation of sodomy charge.

Carver also is charged with two felony counts of terroristic threats and acts along with three felony counts of obstruction of an officer. Additionally, he faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, three counts.
