Mrs. Elizabeth W. Dixon, age 82, of Rome, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at a local hospital.

Home going services for Mrs. Elizabeth Dixon will be Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, 11 a.m. Thankful Baptist Church, 935 Spider Web Dr. Rome, with the Rev. Ferrell Shields doing the eulogy and Pastor H. Bernard Young presiding. She will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.

Interment will follow at the Floyd Memory Garden Rome, Georgia.

There will be a wake Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 21, 2018, Wright Memorial Mortuary Chapel, 814 South Broad Street, Rome, Ga.

Elizabeth R. Van Hoff

Mrs. Elizabeth R. (Betty) Van Hoff, age 87, of Rome, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, in Cedartown, Ga.

Betty was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 30, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Frances Harold Higgins and Dorothy Frances Higgins. She was also preceded in death by one brother, William Joseph Higgins, and a daughter, Patrician Van Hoff Burton.

She was employed with Berry College as the Dean’s Secretary for more than 25 years before retiring in 2000.

She is survived by sons, Michael (Barbara) Van Hoff, of Rome, Mark (Sharon) Van Hoff of Rome, and Tom Van Hoff of Mulberry Fl; Brothers and sisters, Richard Thomas Higgins, Shelia Ann Ruggs, Dorothy Frances Long, and James Patrick Higgins, all of Michigan; Grandchild­ren, Amy Van Hoff-Bryan, John Van Hoff; Step-Grandchild­ren, Carrie Rossio Holmes, Michael Rossio, Tina Sullivan, Clint Trader, Mandy Slappey, David Payne, and Jess Payne. 13 great-grandchild­ren, one great-great grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation for Mrs. Van Hoff will be held Wednesday evening, Feb. 21, 2018, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home, 901 E. Second Ave., Rome, Ga., 30161 with a Biblical Wake to follow at 6 p.m. in the Thomas B. Griffin Chapel of Daniel’s with Deacon Stuart Neslin of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rome, officiatin­g.

Mr. Michael Wayne Green, age 70, of Rome, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, in a local hospital.

Services will be announced at a later date in the Rome News Tribune.

Ms. Ruth Ann Barnes, age 74, of Rome, passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at her residence.

Ms. Barnes was born May 3, 1943, in Floyd County a daughter of the late Cecil Barnes, and Ruby Payne Barnes. She was preceded in death by brother, Billy Barnes.

Survivors include, her daughter, Holly Rayburn, Rome; brother, Gary Barnes, Rome; sister Pat (Charles) Adair, Adairsvill­e; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor, Nick Georgian, officiatin­g. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, on Monday, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Patty Jo “Miss Pat” Puryear, age 77, of Armuchee, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 17, 2018 in a local health care facility.

A native of Peoria, Illinois Mrs. Puryear was born Dec. 19, 1940 daughter of the late Elmer Ray Fonner and Mary Priscilla Weaver Fonner. She had been a resident of Rome most of her life and was a member of the Armuchee Baptist Church and was active in the WMU. “Miss Pat” and her husband Thonn took the temporary job of supplying pizza and snacks for the children on Wednesday night. 15 years later they were still enjoying that ministry. They were both active in the Baptist Center food pantry ministry for over 25 years Prior to retirement, she worked for Carmire and Kuhlman Chenille in Adairsvill­e. Mrs. Puryear was a graduate of East Peoria High School and enjoyed horseback riding and traveling to gospel concerts. She was preceded in death by a brother Charles Fonner.

Survivors include her husband Thonn Puryear; son Darren Puryear and his wife Rita; daughter Raeanne Stanley; grandchild­ren Eric and Mike Stanley, Jason Puryear, Mandy Hicks, Brandy McGaskey; Great grandchild­ren Laken, Mike, Zoe and Belle Stanley, Sierra Casteel, Lauren Brown, and Dakota Hicks; great great grandchild Penelope Casteel; brothers Marion and Terry Fonner.

Graveside funeral and interment services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Reverend Brian Evans and other ministers officiatin­g. The family will receive friends Monday from 1 until 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Armuchee Baptist Church WMU, 6648 Big Texas Valley Road, Rome Ga., 30165.
