Night at the Movies set for February 27
The annual Rome Exchange Club “Night at the Movies,” a major fund raiser for the Exchange Club Family Resource Center, is set for Tuesday, February 27.
Hors d’ oeuvres provided by several Rome restaurants and caterers will be available along with a variety of adult beverages.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with your choice of movies beginning at 7 pm.
The event benefits child abuse prevention programs operated by the Family Resource Center. At-risk families are able to get in-home parent education and life skills training through these programs. This training helps parents create more stable situations that reduce the risk of child abuse occurring in the home.
Tickets, priced at $50 per person $90 for couples and $40 each for groups of 10 or more, are available by calling the Family Resource Center

Edward Jones honored as great place to work
The financial services firm Edward Jones has been listed among the top ten places to work on the 2018 FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For list, checking in at number five.
This marks the 19th appearance time Edward Jones has made the prestigious list. It was the highest-ranking financial-services firm on the list.
Edward Jones has several offices in Rome and Floyd County. The St. Louis-based investment firm provides a variety of financial services in the U.S. and Canada.
“Every aspect of the firm’s business, from the investments its financial advisors offer to the location of its branch offices, caters to individual investors,” reads a press release from the company.
Great Place to Work seeks to draw attention to high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures. The list highlights firms that focus on key business metrics like revenue growth, profitability, retention and stock performance.

Trail of Tears focus of presentation at Chieftains
In recognition of 180th Anniversary of the Trail of Tears, Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home will co-sponsor a lecture, “Duyuk’ dv’ I: The Correct Way in Cherokee,” by Tom Belt, a Western Carolina University Cherokee Language Program Coordinator, March 6th at 7 p.m. in Evans Auditorium on the Berry College campus.
Belt is working to create a state-of-the-art Cherokee language program at the collegiate. He is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, fluent in the Cherokee tongue works representatives of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina to develop Cherokee language learning material.
Belt will also offer his views on Major Ridge and how his actions in signing the Treaty of New Echota went against the concept of “Duyuk’ dv’ I.”
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Berry College is also sponsoring the event as part of its Chieftains Lecture Series at Berry College.
